ABOUT THE BUILDING

The current building of the Faculty of Philology at the University of Lodz was completed in July 2014. The appearance of the edifice is the result of the work of AGG (Grabowski Group Architects), which was entirely responsible for the design of the building.

As befits the Faculty of Philology, the entrance is decorated with sentences and quotations in various languages, carved in antiqua on stone slabs. The huge facades of the side wings are distinctive, with white, irregularly spaced vertical profiles against a background of dark glass planes. Inside, the focus is on the transparent, light-filled central hall (atrium) - the heart of the entire building, which connects and unites all its parts. The multicultural character of the Faculty of Philology is emphasised by the colour coding in the interior. The building consists of six storeys, each in a different colour of the rainbow.

The description above is taken from the building designer's information material.

ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM

Can a university edifice become a smart building fit for the 21st century? Recent activities at the Faculty of Philology at the University of Lodz prove that this vision is not so far off!

Using the open Genetec platform, access control has already been implemented for some of the teaching rooms and special-purpose rooms (radio studio, translation studio equipped with translation booths or television studio). In the next steps, the Faculty authorities intend to integrate an alarm system, fire signalling, ventilation and access to car parks.

What has already been achieved and how the system functions is described by the staff of the Faculty of Philology and the Genetec company, which was responsible for implementing modern solutions in the building.

The video was produced by A&S Poland and Genetec Inc.

The video is available with English 🇬🇧 subtitles.
