NEW TO THE FACULTY?

Studentka drapiąca się po głowie

Rest assured, everyone needs to start uni at some point ! 😎 If you want to fit in with the faculty community, it’s important that you get to know its rules.

Let’s take the 7 steps to become a proper philology student together!

STEP 1: FOLLOW THE FACULTY ON SOCIAL MEDIA

The most important thing is to be well informed!

Although student life is best enjoyed IRL, the community of our faculty is also active online. You can find our profiles on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. We also share information on the uni Discord, as well as upload interesting lectures as podcasts on Spotify.

Follow us and stay up to date with all the philology news!

STEP 2: DOWNLOAD THE UNILODZ SMARTPHONE APP

Yeah, social media are cool, but what if you had all your relevant information at your fingertips? 🤔

Lo and behold! MyUniLodz – the University of Lodz’s mobile student app for smartphones – is now available in the AppStore and Google Play shops. In the app you’ll find the most important information about the goings-on of the faculty, as well as other news and announcements, including general information, information about studying abroad, scholarships, career development, student residences or medical care.

STEP 3: SIGN UP AT THE FACULTY LIBRARY

57% of Poles haven’t read a single book in 2023, but we’re convinced that this statistic does not apply to our students. After all, you can’t graduate and write your thesis without a visit to the library. And why go to the University of Lodz Library building (BUŁ-a), where you can find most of the items you may need at within our faculty resources? But wait, there’s more! What if we told you that you can order books from the faculty library, pick them up and return them using the book machine at the side entrance? Sounds cool? Then what are you waiting for! Sign up at the Faculty Library of the Faculty of Philology today!👇

STEP 4: JOIN A STUDENT SOCIETY

Student societies are dynamic groups of students who work together to develop their passions and interests in a particular field by organising lectures, workshops and research projects. By joining a student society, you have the chance to gain valuable practical experience that will significantly enrich your CV and help you in your future career. By working with other students and lecturers, you will be able to broaden your knowledge, make new friends and participate in interesting academic events. It’s a great opportunity to bring your ideas to life and become part of a passionate student community!

STEP 5: VISIT ONE OF THE FACULTY’S FOOD OUTLETS

Freshly brewed coffee from Coffee Point? Lunch at Fil-Mil? How about some snacks from “Źródło” (The Spring) or sandwiches from the shop next to the reception? You certainly don’t need to fear starvation at our faculty, and with so many options at hand, it’d be a shame not to partake!

Remember, freshmen: a hungry student is an angry student! Even the most interesting lecture will last three times longer on an empty stomach!

STEP 6: RELAX AT ONE OF OUR RELAXATION ZONES

Tired after a your 1.5 hour long lecture? Sadly, university classes can last twice as long as the ones at school! We know that every student needs a moment to relax sometimes, which is why, in cooperation with our partners, we’ve created some student relaxation zones for you at the faculty. Find them at the 1st, 3rd and 4th floors. You can use them to charge up your laptop or your phone, organise your notes or, plain and simple, to lie down for a change…

PS
Your older colleagues from the student council hint that that’s the best place to make friends!

STEP 7: DO YOUR FACULTY SHOPPING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LODZ SHOP

Uni may not be about fashion, but a good outfit gives you a +10 boost to morale 😎✨ Plus, it’s a well-known fact that a Faculty of Philology student looks best with a faculty shoulder bag or a navy-blue arrow pin 😅

If you want to emphasise your bond with the faculty, which will be your second home for at least the next 3 years, do some shopping at the University of Lodz Shop. You’ll find all sorts of philology goodies there!
